project week 10
Today I finished everything, I have made a new dragon, add new material to my scene and gave presentation to entire class.
It was good experience to gather suggestions from other students since I work on solo project, I need get feeback from the class from time to time. I have basic models, the dragon and some example of texture.
The dragon now looks like Chinese style and the dominate color would be gold. For the texture I think I would use red and white mainly plus other light/warm color. For next quarter I think the priority would be the animation of dragon, I need the dragon to be able to fly and shoot.
I think so far the progress is satisfied, I had some minor technique issues and with the help of professor, I had solved them. I hope the game would be playerble by the end of next quarter.

project week 9
This week I was working on the dragon, I use butterfly for the texture of dragon. i have tried to integrate the dragon in to my UDK scene, the problem is I must create double sided plane, because UDK can not display double side so Professor suggests to me that I should create double sided wing in Maya. For the terrain, I tried to use terrain editor but it did not work very well, so I will use environment editor instead of terrain editor. The timer I have basic setup in kismet so once the game starts, the time will cout.
I think the movement of dragon I should put it on next quarter, because it is a challenge for me to finish the animation and coding. However, I will try to make a video to show my environment and dragon. The video would be around 20-30 seconds and it will provide viewer the whole perspective of my game.

project week 8
Last week I have finished half of the models and I have a basic setup of the scene. I have arranged those buildings on corresponding location and they look not bad so far. I think the scale is also accurate because I have used the in game-play function to test it.
This week I was working on the teture and landscape, the texture part was a creative work for me because I can ultilize photoshop to ultilize my own talent for color and design. The landscape is also creative because I can just use the sculpture tool to dig anywhere I want.
Besides texture and landscape, I need a timer as well, I hope I will get all the things done by the end of this quarter.

project week 7
This week I have integrated the scene from Maya to UDK, I have the basic terrain and environment. The challenge is the set those models apart in Maya and compose them again by UDK.
I have to mark down those components in UV map and use the shooter in UDK to represent my character. After this part I will concentrate on texture more because the game will look more desent with color. For the texture I think for this term maybe I would use the texture editor of UDK but I should create my own texture for next term.

project week 6
Since next week is first prototype, so my main focus is to get the game to be playable.
I have finished some models already, I will integrate them from Maya to UDK and create a simple terrain in UDK. I will install a flying object instead of a dragon. The challenge for me is lower the geomerty shapes while maintaince the quality of the models. For the game mechanism, besides installing a flying object, I will need to create dragon balls as the target and a timer to count the time.
The buildings so far I have several small houses, main wall, a bridge, a temple, a hall, a pavillion and some decorations. I think they are enough for first game prototype and I think the main focus should be on UDK.
Solo project provides more flexibility for me and I can always modify my project base on my technique and time management, even though I will have challenges as well, but I try to accomoplish the main goal - a playable art game.

Project week 5
I have settled down my project art direction and project logs this week. After learning some basic knowledge of UDK, I realized that I can not simply import the whole scene from Maya to UDK. In order to speed up the game, I must reconstruct the buildings and terrain by UDK.
From technology aspect, the challenge is how to reduce geometry shapes and maintance the quality of production. I have finish the basic layout of my scene by using Maya, now I think I must get rid of Maya for a while and try to build a basic terrain by UDK.
For a solo project, I think I have more flexibility to take decision, however, I will have more challenge for solving technology problems.
